On Thursday 13 September members of the ionSearch Marketing Conference team spent a whole night sleeping rough on the streets of Leeds in aid of local charity, Simon on the Streets.
The charity, based in Leeds, works with people living rough in the city centre, providing them with emotional and practical support where other help services have failed them.
By providing continuous help to people on the streets in an individual and caring way, the charity works to support people from relapsing into drugs and problematic behaviour with the objective of getting them to a stage where they no longer need help and can support themselves.
Every year Simon on the Streets hosts an organised charity event where local companies are invited to raise money and awareness by sleeping on the streets of Leeds for one night. The event aims to provide an eye-opening experience by providing first-hand accounts from rough-sleepers that have changed their lives around, with the help of Simon on the Streets . Fundraisers are then invited to spend the night sleeping in the open air, with only the basic essentials such as a sleeping bag and cardboard box for warmth.
Previous sleeps have raised thousands of pounds for the charity and this year has been no exception with a total of £6500 raised for the cause so far.
Last year, Blueclaw, the company behind ionSearch, successfully raised a total of £500 for the Sleep out adding to the £1000 that they had already risen for the charity through other fundraising.
This year the ionSearch team also successfully raised £500 for the sleep out, turning to friends and associates across the board for kind contributions in aid of the event.
The Bedding Company, a leading online store, even donated fifty pillows for every person who contributed more than £25 through the ionSearch Just Giving Page.
Martin Woods of ionSearch said:
“It’s a great event that the ionSearch team are proud to take part in. We have had a great response from all the people that we reached out to and are extremely grateful for everyone’s contribution. Simon on the Streets is an important charity in the Leeds area that has saved lives. We are happy to help out in any way we can.”
ionSearch itself is an online marketing conference that takes place every April in the city of Leeds and is organised by Blueclaw Media Ltd.
Due to the great success of last years event, Bluclaw MD, Fergus Clawson, has along with other digital companies in the Leeds area, has helped organise the Leeds Digital Conference on 12th of October to celebrate and showcase the leading digital minds and companies in the North of England.
