Independent agencies join forces to offer integrated services across
digital marketing, social media, PR and content creation

Threepipe Communications and Blowfish Digital today announce a merger of the two agencies, in a
move that will offer clients a fully integrated service that recognises how digital media, search, social
media, earned media, content and data all need to interact in order to engage audiences and deliver
commercial results.

The new agency, called Threepipe, has a combined team of 50, with specialists across a range of

• Digital marketing including SEO, PPC, digital media planning and buying, mobile, affiliate
marketing, data analytics and attribution modelling
• Content creation including mobile and social apps, digital games, video, digital creative
assets, infographics and visualisations, and events, stunts and brand experiences
• PR and social media, with specialist consumer, corporate and b2b, and sports teams

By combining these skill sets into one single agency, Threepipe will be able to help clients solve
the problem of how to successfully reach, engage and influence the behaviour of audiences across
traditional and digital earned and paid media.

The merger was prompted by the recognition of how audiences now access information about
brands, and what influences their perceptions and buying decisions, as Eddie May, co-founder of
Threepipe, explains:

“This isn’t simply a partnership or the launch of a new division; it’s a full merger of two established,
successful agencies with complementary skill sets. We’ve been integrating social media and content
into our PR campaigns for years, but we saw the need to offer clients a wider range of skills, giving us
the ability to create properly integrated and effective campaigns, all under one roof.

“The PR industry continues to struggle with evaluation, and consistently fails to prove its commercial
value to ever more demanding stakeholders. We’re already making exciting progress, identifying
measurable outcomes from our campaigns using the evaluation ideas and analytical skills that
exist within the Blowfish Digital team. We’re confident that together we can deliver our clients the
success, and crucially the evidence of this success, they require.”

Strategic thinking and creative content will sit at the heart of Threepipe, according to Farhad
Koodoruth, founder of Blowfish Digital:

“The nature of digital marketing is changing fundamentally, especially with search algorithms
putting a much greater emphasis than ever before on the quality and frequency of a brand’s content,
media coverage and social media activity. For clients to maintain a commercial advantage, we
strongly believe that each of these areas needs to be connected, which is why we decided that a
merger with Threepipe made perfect sense.

“By combining the strategic thinking and creativity of PR with the analytical techniques of digital
marketing, our new agency will be able to leverage the best of both worlds to create an approach
for clients that harnesses the power of content to deliver across a variety of objectives, from raising
awareness and improving search rankings, to directly delivering sales.”

The increasingly close relationship between SEO, PR and social media is one of the key areas that
Threepipe believes clients will benefit from, as co-founder Jim Hawker explains:

“The responsibilities of client-side marketers are converging to reflect the interdependence of PR,
social media and digital marketing, so it’s a natural step for our agency to be the first to reflect this.
This was highlighted further by Google’s Panda update, which changed the game for SEO, seating it
firmly within the world of PR because of the significance of content and visibility in driving natural

“We’ll be putting insight, planning and content – whether that takes the form of a video, app, event,
game, website or simply a great creative idea – front and centre of everything we do for clients.
This is the only way to truly engage audiences and to ensure the visibility of our clients in the digital

The two independent agencies have fully merged on an equal basis, and will operate as one single
agency under the Threepipe name, working from new joint premises in Holborn, London. Jim
Hawker and Eddie May, co-founders of Threepipe, are joined by Farhad Koodoruth, founder of
Blowfish Digital, as co-owners and directors of the new business.
