Global marketing and technology agency LBi today announced the appointment of Sophie Ling to the newly-created role of Chief People Officer.

Ling is spearheading a series of initiatives aimed at making LBi a uniquely rewarding workplace capable of attracting and retaining a truly diverse range of talent across a variety of different disciplines. Along with her handpicked People Team, Ling will redevelop the agency’s employee offering, whilst reengineering its development portfolio and launching a wide-ranging culture and talent engagement programme.

This engagement programme will build on existing LBi cultural initiatives, such as the famous annual Rave, and the Summer of Love, which involved giving LBi colleagues two hours off every Friday throughout the summer of 2012.

Ling reports directly to LBi’s UK Chief Executive, Anil Pillai, and as part of the UK Executive Board. She will drive the people agenda as part of the agency’s overall business strategy.

Ling has over 15 years’ experience in organisational design, mergers and acquisitions, employee engagement, change and transformation management and implementation of talent strategies for organisations including Agency.com. Most recently she has held consulting roles for Deloitte and KPMG.

Her appointment comes after LBi was ranked 14th in the UK Best Workplaces Awards last year, ahead of brands including Nike, IKEA and Volkswagen. LBi was the only agency to feature in the top 25 of the large workplaces category.

Anil Pillai, Chief Executive of LBi, said: “As everyone in the industry knows, finding and nurturing talent is a top priority. I’ve made it my personal mission to find an established practitioner like Sophie who can help LBi to become A Place Like No Other as we move into the next stage of our evolution. I’m thrilled to have Sophie as part of my team.”

Sophie Ling, Chief People Officer of LBi, added: “I firmly believe that agency brands are built from the inside out. I’m looking forward to working with Anil and the UK Exec team to ensure LBi remains a uniquely rewarding place where the most talented people in our industry work and thrive. We call it A Place Like No Other”
