Graduates are thriving at Nottingham digital marketing agency Hallam Internet – bucking the national trend.
Abra Millar and Jannike Ohsten, both graduates of the University of Nottingham, both found work at Hallam Internet soon after graduating. Both have since achieved Google accreditation and Ms Millar has this week been promoted to the position of Digital Marketing Executive in light of her excellent progression.
The success of graduates at Hallam Internet appears in stark contrast with national trends. This week, TotalJobs.co.uk released research showing that nearly 40% of graduates are still looking for work six months after graduating, with a quarter still unemployed after a year (source: The Independent).
Speaking of her choice to employ graduates, Susan Hallam, Managing Director of Hallam Internet, said: “I am a firm believer in the value of a degree – even if it’s not a degree directly associated with the role. Neither Jannike or Abra have degrees in marketing, but they do have degress which tells me that they are hard working and able to apply themselves to getting results.
“Gaining a degree shows you have the attitude to succeed in a work situation. I have been absolutely delighted with the progression of the graduates I have employed and by mentoring them and ensuring they are supported by the more experienced members of staff, I have these two exceptionally valuable staff members. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the hiring of graduates to other business owners.”
When asked about her experience of job hunting and her position at Hallam Internet, Abra Millar said: “It’s not easy for graduates these days. Despite dropping unemployment figures, I know from experience that graduates still struggle to find jobs. Often, it’s a lack of experience that makes it more difficult – but gaining that experience is not easy when there are so few people willing to give you the opportunity, or when the only opportunities available are unpaid and you can’t afford not to be earning.
“I was really lucky to find the role at Hallam and I’ve been able to apply a lot of my existing skills to it, as well as learning new skills along the way. I’m proud to work for a company which advocates graduate employment and I look forward to supporting other grads in their development within the company one day.”
With their team set to grow further in the coming months, Hallam Internet has various vacancies aimed at graduates as well as experienced marketers; find out more on their careers page.
