Leading international transportation and energy group Maersk has appointed Zone as its retained global social media agency. The brief was awarded following a three-way pitch process.

The agency has been tasked with developing an overarching digital strategy to engage global stakeholders and influencers. The work, which starts on 1 March, will include content creation and daily community management across Maersk Group and Maersk Oil’s social media channels.

Operating in 130 countries worldwide, The Maersk Group owns the world’s largest container shipping company and is involved primarily in the transportation and energy sectors.

To strengthen Maersk’s position as a trade champion, Zone will also develop and activate up to 10 digital campaigns a year around events such as the China Development Forum and UN climate change forum COP22.

Matt Simpson, Zone’s international managing director, said: “Digital is transforming the way global businesses such as Maersk operate and communicate. Maersk are ambitious about seizing this opportunity and believe – as we do – that social media can help them engage an audience of international stakeholders and influencers. We’re delighted to be partnering with such a forward-thinking business.”

Zone clients include Coca-Cola, Pernod Ricard, Tesco, BT, Barratt Homes and British Red Cross.
