speed-trap e-Gov intelligence to be used by Salford City Council & South Tyneside Council to provide quantitative analysis about their how each of their websites are being used & to provide insight for improving website user’s experiences

Newbury, Berkshire, July 5th, 2005  speed-trap Limited announced today that South Tyneside Council and Salford City Council have each selected and are implementing “e-Gov intelligence”, speed-trap’s Government sector e-business intelligence product, for use upon their websites. The implementations follow on from a study of a number of Local Authority websites by Socitm (the Society of Information Technology Management), as part of their Better Connected 2005, Socitm Insight study published in March.

e-Gov intelligence will be used to provide quantitative and qualitative analysis of how people are using the South Tyneside Council and Salford City Council websites and to provide an insight into how the user experience could be improved in the future. Malcolm Duckett, VP Marketing for speed-trap, commented: “These are exciting deployments for speed-trap’s e-government solution which focuses specifically upon helping Local Government web sites meet the targets as defined under the Efficiency Review. We’ve built a specific solution aimed directly at this sector with pricing and service options tailored for the local government market place. The results obtained via the work we initially did with Socitm, are now being confirmed by the enthusiastic take up and deployment by innovative local authorities at sites including Salford and South Tyneside”.

Commenting upon selecting speed-trap’s e-Gov intelligence solution, Roger Abbott, Web and Publishing Team Leader at South Tyneside Council said: “In order to continuously improve our websites, and ensure visitors return on a regular basis, we need to understand how people are using the site in practice together with the problems they are facing. speed-trap e-Gov intelligence provides such a mechanism for objective analysis of usability without the need for visitors to answer surveys. Hence, we can begin to understand the website behaviour of not only the enthusiastic website users prepared to give us their views, but also those casual, often inexperienced users.” Abbott elaborated: “Although we can test response times from web servers, the actual response time for the visitor is dependent on numerous other factors such as the speed of their own computer, the speed of their line, peak internet times and so on. With speed-trap e-Gov intelligence, however, we can test the response times, which each user is really experiencing as they move around the website. This provides a powerful mechanism by which to build a more complete picture of the overall user experience.”
