Viral Marketing experts New Media Maze, are taking the 80’s cult hit Flash Gordon back to its comic book roots with an interactive viral marketing application that allows fans to create their very own Flash Gordon comic strip. The campaign is to promote the upcoming Momentum pictures release of the Flash Gordon Silver Anniversary Edition DVD Box set and can be seen at

The viral application works by enabling users to devise their own comic strip using stills from the film with their favourite Flash characters, they then create their own serious or humorous captions, complete with speech bubbles to create their own story – the finished product can then be sent to a friend as an e-card, or for the hard-core Flash fanatics- be saved as a wallpaper or a screensaver. The campaign also links to the film trailer and also to an online retailer where the DVD can be purchased on its release in the UK on the 10th of October.

“The buzz over this upcoming release is huge” Says New Media Maze’s Head of Production, Scott Holland. “Flash Gordon has a massive cult following and we have created this campaign with the view of letting the fans have their own little piece of Flash – in flash – a comic strip that is customised with their own storyline. The send to a friend feature will create a viral effect amongst this niche audience, although the Silver Anniversary Edition is a must have for any serious DVD collector.”

Adam Eldrett from Momentum Pictures also adds “The viral campaign for Flash Gordon really is something special, we have given the fans a lovely way to get involved with the release and enabled them to pen their very own comic strip online. Flash Gordon is growing in strength every day on the run up to the 10th of October; it seems to be a film that is thought of very fondly by the majority of film fans. This campaign is joined by some heavy press advertising and very limited edition packaging.”
