The accelerated growth of retail media has led to a growing number of networks. These can be broadly categorised into six types, from giant ecommerce marketplaces to sector-specific networks, such as those that specialise in hospitality. This chapter maps the retail media landscape and explains the different network categories. It covers:
- Network examples: The online behemoth Amazon is a well established ecommerce marketplace network, while rapid delivery apps such as Uber Eats and DoorDash represent the q-commerce players emerging onto the scene.
- Omnichannel retailers: The likes of Walmart, Target and Tesco have mature network offerings with access to vast amounts of shopper data.
- Technology platforms: Many retailers have partnered with technology platforms to power their retail media offerings and provide sophisticated capabilities.
