Second Chance Trees, a Second Life project that aims to help preserve endangered rainforests, has been selected as a finalist in the American Express Members Project competition.

Second Chance Trees was conceived by social media agency Converseon, in partnership with Plant It 2020, and encourages Second Life residents to plant virtual trees at Second Chance Trees Island.

Residents pay around $1.50, which triggers the planting of a real tree in endangered rainforest regions of the world. The project has been selected as one of the 50 finalists in the American Express Members Project contest, the only one to come from Second Life.

American Express members are voting for what they think is the most worthy initiative, and the winner will receive funding of $5m for their project. If you are a member, you can vote via the link below.

If Second Chance Trees is selected as the winner, Plant It 2020 will plant over a million indigenous trees in endangered rainforest regions.
