German firm Siemens has the best corporate website, while eight of the top ten websites are those of European firms, according to a study of 75 top company sites.
The FT Bowen Craggs Index looked at the effectiveness of corporate websites, and finds that more of these firms are now taking their web presence more seriously.
Siemens’ website gained the number one slot for its multiimedia homepage, in addition to some solid information and content for customers and investors.
Trends uncovered in the report include:
- Growing use of video and multimedia – more companies are now adding video content to their websites, while others are attracting visitors and making sites more enjoyable by adding games and even virtual worlds.
- The study also concluded that too many US sites suffer from poor management, ‘which leads to a strange mix of good content and terrible functionality.’
- Web 2.0 – the report didn’t find too much evidence of Web 2.0 features, but did point out that much of this happens away from the corporate site. It cited Wal-mart’s Check Out blog as a good example of a frank and open blog.
