This week we have a word with the team from Cardiff-based startup Compare My Move.
In one sentence, what is your product/service?
Compare My Move is an online removal cost comparison service designed to help home movers find the best deal while also providing removal leads to over 200 removal company partners in our network.
What problem(s) does it solve?
Designed with both the customers and the home removal companies in mind, Compare My Move solves the issue of finding a trustworthy and reliable, professional removal firm.
Our removal company partners go through a strict verification process so that we can be sure that customers are only working with consummate and conscientious professionals with the appropriate skills, training and insurance. We also work to ensure that removal companies across the length and breadth of the UK are getting a steady stream of removal leads.
In what has become a very competitive business, it is important that people have the opportunity to shop around and find the best possible price. Our cost comparison service can save customers up to 70% on their home, office or international removal costs.
What were the biggest challenges involved in building the tech or growing your team?
The Compare My Move directors put a strong focus on conquering the online marketplace, leading the way in digital innovation in an industry that hadn’t fully embraced it. Understanding the importance of digital marketing has meant that our digital marketing team makes up 50% of our workforce. We faced a challenge making the move from outsourcing much of our work to building the strong, talented in-house team we have now.
We have also made sure that we have worked with the best developers, who through careful and considerate management have come to care deeply about the work they do, taking great pride in the Compare My Move website and service. We have worked tirelessly to develop an appealing, seamless website experience for users.
How will the company make money?
We will strive to continuously improve the online experience for our users and deliver a constantly improving service to our partner network. We have plans to add extra comparison features and increase revenue streams through these additional features.
We have already, just recently, launched a property survey portal to the site. We have an affiliate program where we integrate our services through other websites that we share similar audiences with. We hope to grow this providing more leads and revenue. We also have a number of brand partners and will look to add and develop more to grow our brand appeal and reputation.
Other hopes and plans include upscaling our marketing and advertising. Most of our marketing efforts are focused on online methods. We aim to continue with these efforts and increase them, as well as explore other avenues such as print and social media. Data sharing is also a massive market right now. Compare My Move aim to take advantage of this by monetizing the data we collect.
Who is in your team?
Our team consists of company directors Marc Benger and Dave Sayce, who are very hands-on with the business – involved in all aspects of how Compare My Move runs and operates and constantly looking for new ways to grow.
Our developer Jamie Blacker is dedicated and highly skilled with a problem-solving brain that has proved very valuable to Compare My Move.
Our sales manager Stu Burns maintains strong relationships with our partner network and the digital team – Jyles Kerr-Smith, Rhydian Ball, Katie Cullen and Owain Banfield – are continuously striving to bring Compare My Move to the forefront of the digital industry, staying on top of current trends and best practices as well as always looking for new and creative ways to market the business.
Where would you like to be in one, three and five years’ time?
In a years’ time, we hope to have the additional comparison services that are in the offing firmly in place and to be helping home-movers to have a positive moving experience.
In three years’ time, we hope to have continued to see steady growth as a business and to have expanded our team, specifically the sales, development and digital team.
In 5 years’ time, the hope is to have massively increased brand awareness. The goal is to have people who think about moving house, think about Compare My Move first.
Other than your own, what are your favourite websites/apps/tools?
Based in Cardiff, we have price comparison giants GoCompare and Confused.com operating just around the corner. They’re continuously developing and innovating across their content and product offerings.
Zoopla is always interesting with their acquisitions and ever-growing portfolio of companies. We also closely monitor the PropTech sector which has too many great sites and tools to mention but, we have recently taken an interest in MortgageGym and UniversityCribs.
