Continuing our covering of the collaborative consumption trend, we’ve found another example in the form of StuffPal.

This Facebook app from Los Angeles-based Loconuts is designed to facilitate the sharing of books, DVDs and video games among friends.


Users sign-in via Facebook and then create a personal media library of any items they’re willing to lend to friends, including textbooks, music, DVDs and video games. 

Friends can then view each other’s libraries for items they might like to use. If they see something they like, the friends meet up in person for delivery; a tracking system within the app helps users stay on top of who has what and when it’s due to be returned. 

As Springwise notes, sharing initiatives such as this are always going to be popular with consumers.

Tapping into a pre-existing social network seems a logical step for a service that relies on its users knowing each other.

Last week we covered Wear It Share It (Wishi), another example of a Facebook app that allows people to upload photos of their clothes and accessories – then share these with selected friends.

In Wishi’s case, users can create new looks by mixing and matching pieces of their own with their friends’ virtual wardrobes – or items within the Wishi community. People can also then share fashion or styling tips – and sell or exchange items through an online marketplace.

Though in StuffPal’s case, no money is transferred,  this is an intersting application of the trend.

Loconuts itself says that it will bring a “proof over theory” business model to clients looking for digital solutions and products that create “interactive socialization” – adding that it connects brands with communities.

Though no brand is connected to StuffPal yet, and the product is in beta, it could be smart way to build up a community of socially-aware, green-minded sharers, for which the app is a Trojan horse.
