TUI Travel, the holiday group that includes major travel brands Thomson Holidays and First Choice, has reportedly acquired holiday user review website Holidays Uncovered.

Travolution reports that a deal was concluded within the past few weeks and will soon be officially announced.

Hopefully, TUI Travel will do something about the Holidays Uncovered website, which isn’t too nice to look at, as well as being horrible to use:

But the site ranks well in the search engines for a range of holiday destinations, and this may well be one of the main reasons for the purchase.

Strategically, the move mirrors Expedia’s purchase of TripAdvisor in 2004.

Holidays Uncovered has been going for six years and claims to have over 50,000 user reviews on the site, as well as over 1m monthly users.

It earns cash from display ads and affiliate deals – it will be interesting to see how TUI develops the site and whether it will licence its reviews out to third parties.
