Wal-Mart crashes Prime Day, should other retailers follow suit?

Yesterday (Wednesday 15 July 2015) in celebration of its 20th anniversary, Amazon is promised its Prime customers "more deals than Black Friday."

You can judge for yourself how successful this was for the retailer.

Despite the ‘quality’ of the bargains on offer, Prime Day is a reflection of just how important Prime has become to Amazon, and how the ecommerce giant is increasingly wielding it to win business away from other online retailers and brick-and-mortar competitors.

How Black Friday stole Christmas

As a result of all the issues surrounding Black Friday, customers were left more disappointed than usual.

But will the customer accept Black Friday as an excuse for poor website performance in future?

Which retailers had a good Christmas online?

It's that time of year when retailers report on Christmas trading, so I've rounded up some of the key ecommerce figures.

As IMRG reports, ecommerce continued to grow, with the market worth £104bn in 2014, up 14% YOY.

Not every retailer had a great Christmas though...

Top five Christmas 2014 digital marketing stats

The festive season is perhaps the most challenging and rewarding time in multichannel commerce.

Last month, the internet was awash once more with statistics and trends that dig right down into understanding how consumers are shopping at Christmas, and how merchants are striving for their engagement and cash.

As always, our Internet Statistics Compendium collects the best digital stats from around the globe and across the online and mobile landscape.

Today, I have collected the top five that really piqued my interest over the Christmas period and thought I’d try and sum up why these data points might be valuable to marketers and digital types going on into 2015.

Black Friday finally took hold in the UK this year thanks largely to a huge marketing push by retailers.

All the stats you need from Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2014

I solemnly swear that this is (probably) the last Black Friday/Cyber Monday post we’re going to write this year.

We’ve potentially been guilty of overdoing it, but then when the whole ecommerce world goes mad for a sales event it's hard to avoid getting swept up in the hoopla.

How AO.com owned Black Friday with agile marketing

We like agile marketing here at Econsultancy. It's a sign that an organisation has the right setup, as it can react quickly and take advantage of situations.

It's also often very clever and / or amusing

Here's another example from Black Friday. Seeing that rivals' sites were suffering under unexpected levels of traffic, AO.com saw an opportunity.

How did retailers handle the Cyber Monday sales?

It seems that, as well as falling for Black Friday, the UK's ecommerce sites staged some big Cyber Monday promotions.

Most sites have sales on today, so how are they dealing with sales? Are they providing a good user experience?

Why Amazon was the winner on Black Friday

Last year Black Friday was a relatively new promotional concept for retailers in the UK.

Fast forward 12 months and you’d be hard pressed to find a UK consumer who hasn’t heard of Black Friday or been on Amazon.

Black Friday email marketing: Eight retail examples

Black Friday has come and gone, leaving my inbox full to the brim with tempting offers and discounts.

Thanksgiving sales have been big business in the US for many years but they’re now starting to catch on among UK retailers as well.

Black Friday takes out some major ecommerce sites

This year, thanks to the greater promotion from retailers, Black Friday seems to have taken hold in earnest in the UK.

The scenes from 24 hour Tesco and Sainsbury's stores suggest that retailers didn't realise Black Friday was going to be so popular, and the websites of some big names have also struggled to cope.
