Will Amazon Dash be an ecommerce breakthrough for CPG brands?

When Amazon announced Amazon Dash, a device that lets consumers reorder common household products ranging from peanut butter to paper towels through their AmazonFresh accounts, many thought it must be an early April Fool's joke.

Passing the Big Data point of no return

We have passed the point of questioning the value and capabilities of Big Data on business success. In progressive organizations it now holds a seat at the table as a crucial resource to business. Companies have realized that there are major opportunities to use the data they already have and apply new insights across their business for incredible results.

Cloud technologies, and the advancements in data analysis give foundation to accelerating the trend. Advanced technologies like active analytics (“decisioning”), advanced algorithms, etc. are proving to be extremely effective at fueling the Big Data engine. In the new world we live in, data isn’t something to be stored and ignored, but analyzed and utilized for its valuable insights.

Big Data analysis has proven to be invaluable at helping driving decisions across organizations—from pricing and distribution decisions, to product and marketing insight—spreading a trend of ROI from end to end. There is no doubt, Big Data is now mainstream.

Websites crucial to CPG brands: report

Major CPG brands spend eye-popping sums of money every year across multiple channels trying to convince consumers to buy their products when they walk into the supermarket.

When it comes to how that money is spent, you're probably more likely to think about high-profile television campaigns than you are to, say, websites. After all, a funny television ad for a cereal probably seems more appealing than a cereal website.

Site review: Alice.com

Having sold social search engine Jellyfish to Microsoft in 2007, founders Brian Wiegand and Mark McGuire started work on Alice.com, which launched in beta this week.

Alice.com provides an online marketplace for users to buy a whole range of household goods; nappies, batteries, soap and more, and for CPG manufacturers to sell directly to customers. I've been trying the site out...

Never run out of toilet paper again

alice.com logoDown to one square of TP? Is the dog out of kibble, the soap in the bathroom down to a sliver, and you can't find an envelope to mail that letter or a bandage for your blister? Don't blame Alice if you can't think, plan or shop ahead.

Alice.com launched today in beta. The new commerce site sells "household essentials," those necessary staples such as soap and shampoo, tissues and detergent, pet food and aluminum foil...and doesn't charge a shipping fee. Instead, they rely on customer loyalty -- the fact that consumers need to keep buying all this stuff

Q&A: Sarah Fay CEO of Aegis Media North America

Sarah Fay, the chief executive of Aegis Media North America, is known for her smarts, a genuine warmth, and not incidentally, the fact that she's one of the most powerful women in advertising in North America, if not the world.

A 10-year veteran of Carat, Fay has steadily risen in the ranks until she ultimately achieved the top slot in 2007, when the company merged the digital and traditional media assets of Carat and Isobar into a single integrated operating unit.

We caught up with Sarah to ask about advertising in a recession, trends in media buying, and what's been surprising and inspiring her since she took up the reins at Aegis.
