What are Rich Pins and how can you use them?

Pinterest marketing for retailers has gotten a whole lot more interesting.

Quite simply, Rich Pins offer more details than your standard Pinterest pins, therefore making them more useful.

If you’re a retailer you can include product information such as real-time pricing, stock availability and direct links to the product page.

Rich Pins are a very similar concept to ‘rich snippets’.  If you’re already aware of ‘rich snippets’ then you’re half way to understanding Rich Pins.

What is Schema markup and why should you be using it?

Pages with Schema markup rank four positions higher in search results, according to a study by Searchmetrics.

That’s an incredibly juicy proposition.

I’ve been making a point in my journey as a writer for Econsultancy to investigate the many and varied terms in digital that I don’t understand.

As I am a relative newcomer to the digital marketing world, this is like a trial-by-fire. In previous weeks I’ve covered terms like CRM, CRO and black hat and white hat SEO.

This article will be a beginner’s guide covering various aspects of Schema, from a basic explanation as to what it means, to why you should be using and some stats to back up the claims.

The three types of social structured data and why you need them

Social structured data and rich snippets are powerful tools for attracting extra attention and clicks when your content is shared or appears in search results.

For the uninitiated, social structured data is essentially the annotations that appear when a link is shared across social networks. It gives a summary of the information so the user knows what they’re letting themselves in for.

It’s a topic we’ve covered before in posts looking at the value of rich snippets and how ‘rel=author’ impacts SEO.

And at Brighton SEO Firecask co-founder Alex Moss gave an insightful talk on the importance of using social structured data and how to implement it.

The value of rich snippets and structured data

schema.orgAt the beginning of this month, I gave a talk on how to increase CTR using rich snippets at SMX Israel.

What I notice that other posts written about rich snippets are more about what new structured data now appear in the SERPs and some actionable development resources.

What I find lacking, which I tried to cover in my talk, was being able to show your client why it’s important to them as a business, not just because “that looks better”.
